The Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI), an affiliated agency of the Ministry of Environment, reviewed applications from 53 companies that applied for designation as Outstanding Environmental Industry Companies for 2019. Following a comprehensive evaluation of business performance, technological capabilities, and other criteria, KEITI designated 12 companies as Outstanding Environmental Industry Companies.

On October 1, KEITI held the “2019 Outstanding Environmental Industry Company Designation Ceremony” at its headquarters in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, where designation certificates were presented to 12 environmental companies, including Daeyang E&I, that were selected as outstanding environmental industry firms.

Among the selected companies, five—Daeyang E&I Co., Ltd., Dongmyung Enterprise, Dongil Canvas Engineering, Enbion, and Techwin—were re-designated as Outstanding Environmental Industry Companies in 2019 after their initial designation in 2014 reached the end of its five-year validity period and passed a renewed evaluation. Seven companies, including Dongmoon ENT, Seoyong Engineering, Ecoset, FT Lab Co., Ltd., E&C, EPS E&E Co., Ltd., and P&I Human Korea, were newly selected this year.

Since 2012, KEITI has designated Outstanding Environmental Industry Companies among environmental firms with at least three years of business history that demonstrate excellence in business performance and technological competitiveness, as part of its efforts to support and foster the environmental industry. Following an evaluation committee review based on detailed criteria—such as sales performance and potential for job creation—KEITI conducts on-site inspections to verify business activities and actual product production. Final designation is determined based on a comprehensive assessment of eligibility and alignment with the program’s objectives.

Companies designated as Outstanding Environmental Industry Companies receive various forms of support, including linkage to KEITI support programs, assistance with participation in overseas exhibitions, consultations with local business partners, and corporate promotion support. Since the program’s launch in 2012, a total of 89 companies have been designated. As of 2019, 50 companies remain within the legally valid designation period of five years from the date of designation, including the 12 re-designated companies.

Meanwhile, an analysis conducted by KEITI on the performance of 14 companies designated in 2017 showed notable growth. Average revenue per company increased by approximately 21.4%, from KRW 384.92 billion in 2016 (prior to designation) to KRW 467.25 billion in 2018 (after designation). Average exports per company rose by 18.4%, from KRW 46.5 billion in 2016 to KRW 55.0 billion in 2018. Average employment also increased by about 15%, from 97 employees in 2016 to 112 employees in 2018.

Nam Gwang-hee, President of KEITI, stated,
“Through the Outstanding Environmental Industry Company designation program, we hope that excellent environmental companies will lead Korea’s environmental industry and further establish themselves as national representative environmental companies in the global environmental market.”
